# Create and organize snippets

> Write snippets in the dashboard editor, then keep the library tidy with folders, labels, search, pins and bulk actions.

## Create a snippet

    Go to [app.sprintbrain.com](https://app.sprintbrain.com). The Snippets page opens first.

    The editor opens.

  <Step title="Name it">
    Type a **Name**, for example `Quote English`. Emoji are left out of names. While you type, the **Trigger** fills itself in from the name. Type your own trigger at any point to take it over.

  <Step title="Check the trigger">
    A trigger uses letters, numbers, `_` and `-`, up to 60 characters. The box in front of it shows your prefix, so you can read the whole shortcut, like `::quote_english`.

  <Step title="Write the body">
    Type the text in **Body**. Use the panel on the left to add [fields](/text-snippets/dynamic-fields), [formulas](/text-snippets/formulas) and conditions at the cursor.

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Create snippet**. It's ready to use in the extension and on your phone.

The editor also holds:

* **Folder**: where the snippet lives.
* **Labels**: tags you share between snippets and prompts.
* **Alternative queries**: extra words that insert the same snippet and that the selection menu recognises. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> or a comma after each one. A warning appears if one of them is already another snippet's trigger.
* **Language pills** (EN, IT, ES, FR, Multi) above the body. See [Languages](/text-snippets/multilanguage).
* **Preview**: shows the fill form and the finished text while you write. It needs a wide window.

To edit a snippet, click its row. **Save changes** keeps the old wording in [version history](/text-snippets/version-history).

## Folders

Folders sit in the rail on the left of the Snippets page. Click **+** at the top of the rail to create one.

A folder has a name, an optional description (shown under its title), an icon and an optional parent folder. Folders nest up to three levels deep.

Right-click a folder for **New subfolder**, **Rename**, **Change icon**, **Share with team…** and **Delete folder**. Deleting a folder moves its snippets to **All snippets** and its subfolders to the top level.

To move a snippet, drag its row onto a folder in the rail. The button beside the search box hides and shows the rail.

## Labels

Labels are one list for snippets and prompts. Each has one of eight colours, and a label can have sub-labels one level down.

* Add labels in the editor, or from a row's menu with **Label as**.
* To create, rename, recolour or delete labels, open **Labels** in the filter bar and choose **Manage labels**. Deleting a label with sub-labels moves them to the top level.

## Find a snippet

* The search box above the table matches names, triggers and tags.
* The search bar at the top of the dashboard looks through snippets, prompts and memory at once.
* Filter by language and by label, and sort by **Name**, **Updated** or **Usage**.
* Show 10, 25 or 100 rows per page.

## Actions on a snippet

* The **pencil** opens the editor.
* The **⋯** menu has **Pin to top**, **History**, **Clone**, **Label as**, **Disable** and **Delete**. A disabled snippet stays in the list but doesn't expand.
* Right-click a row for **Edit**, **Pin to top**, **Duplicate**, **Disable** and **Delete snippet**.

Delete asks for a second click to confirm.

## Work on several at once

Tick the boxes on the left of the rows. A bar appears: choose **Move to folder** or **Delete selected**, then **Apply to** the selected snippets.

## Unused snippets

When a snippet hasn't been used for six months, a notice appears above the list. It names the snippet and offers:

* **Delete**
* **Modify**, which opens the editor.
* **Keep**, which hides the notice for that snippet for 90 days on this browser.

Change how long SprintBrain waits (6 to 9 months) under **Settings**, **Unused snippets and prompts**.
